Hello and Happy Tuesday! Here are a few notes about events in the classroom and around Brassfield.
1. This Friday, March 2 is Read Across America Day (and Early Release Day at 1:15). Students are encouraged to bring a favorite book or a book they are reading to school. We will be taking a SCHOOLwide picture at some point with kids holding their books.
2. This Friday, March 2, also in honor of Read Across America Day and Dr. Seuss's birthday, the 2nd grade will be doing a rotation of several activities that will incorporate literacy around our curriculum (science, writing, math, reading, and social studies). We are inviting the pups to wear "Dr. Seuss wear" if they wish.
3. This Wednesday, February 28, we will have our LAST in-school field trip. Science Is Fun for Everyone will lead the pups in a variety of hands-on experiments and activities about weather. Our time slot is 10:35-11:50.
4. Writing in Reading...To help the pups improve their written responses to reading, I am going to start a weekly challenge in at home reading. The pups SHOULD be reading each night (independently or with someone) and discussing or thinking about what they read. I see the evidence of this each day when I hear the pups talk about books with their friends or me.
So...starting this week...I will be posting (on the Homework tab) 2-4 questions about reading. These questions could be those we are currently working on in class, review, or some that will extend their reading and thinking. Any student that brings in 3 questions with a well-written response to share, will earn the challenge dojos (3). Pups are welcome to keep a reading response journal to just use lined paper. I look forward to reading about THEIR reading!
5. Reminder that on March 20, the pups will become entrepreneurs and sell a product they have made at home. They have been working hard to earn "class money" to be able to spend at Enterprise Day. Please make sure your pup comes prepared with 20-40 homemade items (inexpensive) to sell to their classmates. If you have any questions, please email me.
